Modifying the 8.5 Mail template

We use Lotus Notes mail in our organization, since Release 2. Each time we upgrade, we have a few modifications we add to the mail template. We now want to upgrade to 8.5. Can I still easily modify the mail template? At this point, I really only need to add a few action buttons and a dialogbox.

We want to use mail on the browser. Any help would greatly appreciated.

Re: Modifying the 8.5 Mail template
What release are you on right now?

Updating the mail template for the client is pretty easy and straightforward since it sounds like you may have a good knowledge of past Notes mail templates. Modifications for iNotes (web-based Lotus Notes mail) may be a little trickier. Some changes are right in the mail template and display/function in iNotes, but some changes may need to be done in either forms85.nsf and/or forms85x.nsf (this database may need to be created).

Here a good resource for your iNotes customizations:

Hope this helps!

Re: Modifying the 8.5 Mail template
Looks way over my head for modification of iNotes. I have one action button I want to add.. We have a "discussion" database with extreme document controls on the documents in the database. We add an action button in the mail file called copy into discusson.. When clicked, it runs an agent that brings up a dialogbox.. The user selects the group that will be able to read the document once copied into the discussion database and categorization for the document. When the OK button is clicked on the dialogbox, a new document is created and the values from the dialogbox are set in that document. The document is then mailed to the discussion database.

So, for the modification of the Mail file, I have a form used as the dialogbox, an action button added to the $inbox, and an agent.. Nothing complicated, but seems daunting to accomplish in inotes. I have not done much web development in about 10 years, so I'm freaking out about attempting this. I can read javascript and I know some html and css..

I wonder if there is any training I could obtain to help me add this small modification to the inotes mail functionality.

Thanks in advance for any guidance
